Our Agility Story

Chris & Otto

Decker & Otto

Chris & Otto in the Netherlands

There is nothing so special as the bond between handler and dog; you become a team that, if you get it right, can not be beaten

I have been involved with dogs all my life, as family pets and then competing at top level agility.

I started teaching back in the 80's when things were a lot different, choke chains and negative reinforcement. I then moved on to horses and competed at Endurance riding for many years with dogs just being pets in the background.

I retrained to teach 8 years ago with Chirag Patel, using only positive reinforcement methods and I am an ADTB approved puppy/dog behaviourist.

I started in dog agility, which is my passion, 10 years ago. My first dog, Otto, went on to be an Agility Champion, competing at Crufts and we represented Britain in the European Championships in the Netherlands in 2019.

We were also on the English team for the World Agility Open, again to take place in the Netherlands earlier this year, but Otto was very sadly killed in a tragic accident (not agility related). I have two more dogs that compete, both spaniels, one competes at grade 4 and shows loads of potential and my newcomer is a spaniel that I have rehomed and she is just starting her agility career.

I believe that whether training puppies or teaching agility, the experience should be rewarding and fun for both owner and dog.
